STARTALK
The STARTALK Student Summer Program, offered by the School of Curriculum and Teaching, is a three-week standards-driven, blended language learning program designed for secondary/early college heritage language learners who wish to gain higher levels of language and intercultural proficiency through the study of Hindi/ Urdu in real world contexts and in contemporary learning environments

Theme
"Environmental Challenges in India and Pakistan: Impact and Solutions” is the theme that will guide instruction and learning through the study of Hindi/Urdu as it is currently used in the real world context of the public discussion taking place in India and Pakistan about environmental issues and how to address them.
Learning Outcomes
- Improve Hindi/Urdu language skills in a real world context by learning about environmental issues affecting India/Pakistan without using textbooks.
- Participate in daily structured Skype interactions with our partner school in Ajmer, India or Karachi, Pakistan and with experts from various fields using a variety of technology tools.
- Gain knowledge about Indian/Pakistani perspectives/practices concerning targeted environmental issues in comparison with those from other countries.
- Use Hindi/Urdu in oral and written interactions on topics related to environmental issues with the goal of seeking possible solutions and taking action to address environmental challenges.
- Be able to use Hindi for community service activities and/or future employment opportunities.
- Earn 1- high school or college credit for successful completion of the program and/or up to 6- college credits dependent results reported on the NYU Proficiency Test.
