Lost and Found
Items that are lost on campus are forwarded to the Kean University Lost and Found. The Lost and Found is located in the Department of Public Safety/Police, Downs Hall, Records Bureau. Items are turned over to the University Police directly, or at times through several common areas such as the University Center Information Desk, the library front desk or the Facilities Office.
If you recover lost items, please contact the University Police at x74800, and an officer will be sent to pick them up. Lost items may also be dropped off at the Police Desk, located in the lobby of Police Headquarters at Downs Hall, 24 hours a day. If you have lost an item and are contacted by anyone other than the University Police regarding getting it back, you should request the person turn it over to the University Police for everyone's mutual convenience and safety.
Inquires regarding lost/found property may be made in person at the Records window, or by contacting the Records Bureau office during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.) at x74810. Calls regarding property after hours or on weekends may be directed to Police Dispatch at x74800; however, it may not be possible to return property after business hours depending on the type of property and how long ago it was turned in, as all property that comes into the possession of the University Police is logged, inventoried and then secured in a locking system. Only designated personnel from the Records Bureau are able to access the locking system once an item has been logged and secured by an officer.
The Department of Public Safety/Police follows New Jersey State Law regarding the proper disposition of found property that is not retrieved by its rightful owner in the designated time frames. For more information on this topic, please contact the Records Supervisor at x74810.
