Anticipated Faculty Positions 2019-2020
Wenzhou-Kean University is seeking faculty from all disciplines for its location in Wenzhou, China. Wenzhou is one of the most vibrant and economically advanced cities on China’s East Coast, located one hour by plane and just over three hours by high-speed train from Shanghai. Launched in 2012, Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) sits on approximately 500 beautiful acres and is now in the midst of a growth phase that will bring enrollment to more than 5,000 students. WKU offers a unique model of higher education in partnership with Kean University, a comprehensive, public New Jersey State University, is approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education. All instruction is in English and all curriculum is provided by Kean USA.
Wenzhou-Kean University programs comprise the following majors: English in Global Settings (B.A.); Finance (B.S.); Accounting (with emphasis on international standards and practices) (B.S.); Global Business (B.S.); Marketing (B.S.); Management (Entrepreneurship Option and Supply Chain Management Option) (B.S.); Graphic Design (B.F.A.); Interior Design (B.F.A); Industrial Design (B.I.D.); Architecture (B.A.); Computer Science (B.S.); Mathematics (Data Analytics Option) (B.A.); Biology/Cell & Molecular (B.S.); Environmental Science (B.S.); Psychology (B.A.); and Public Relations (B.A.). In addition, Wenzhou-Kean has a substantial commitment to the teaching of ESL/EFL.
All faculty positions are full-time assignments, effective for the start of the fall 2019 semester. Positions will be offered at either the tenure-track or Lecturer level. Tenure-track appointments are available at the rank of Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor where indicated, and require teaching assignments; student and learning support services; advising; service to the university and/or professional community; and research and publication. A Lecturer is a full-time, twelve-month employee who teaches up to 39 credits per year and provides student and learning support services during the assigned period. Lecturers teach; provide student and learning support services; service to the university and/or professional community; and perform related work as required. Lecturer positions are non-tenure track and may be renewed on an annual basis. All faculty at Wenzhou-Kean University will be paid by WKU, with salaries and benefits comparable to faculty at Kean USA, plus travel and housing allowances.
Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable. All faculty may be required to teach General Education courses as needed. Opportunities are also available to teach disciplinary support courses. Qualifications: A Doctorate degree is required in the relevant or a related field for tenure-track positions; ABD considered with completion prior to the effective date of employment. A terminal degree is required for tenure-track positions in Design and Architecture. A Master’s degree in a related field is required for Lecturer positions. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in the fields of Design and Architecture to substitute for a Master’s degree as determined by the University. A minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level and English fluency is required for all positions.
English: Rhetoric & Composition; Business, Professional and Technical Writing; ESL/EFL; TESL/TEFL; World Literature; Translation/Interpretation – to teach a combination of (1) general ESL/EFL classes, (2) First-Year Composition classes, (3) World Literature, (4) translation and interpretation (5) writing/rhetoric, linguistics and EFL/ESL methods and teaching techniques within the English in Global Settings major. Finance (Assistant/Associate and Lecturer) – to teach and conduct research in the field of investment, international finance and business statistics. Accounting (Assistant/Associate and Lecturer) – to teach a range of courses including, but not limited to: Auditing; Principles, Intermediate and Advanced Accounting; Cost Accounting; and Accounting Information Systems. In addition to teaching and research, responsibilities include student advisement, ongoing program assessment work and assisting with the development and growth of a program. Candidates must have an on-going agenda for research and publication; perform outreach to the professional practice community; provide vision and guidance in the area of accounting education and the profession; and support the University’s AACSB accreditation initiative. Business (Assistant/Associate and Lecturer): Business Law/Business Ethics, Global Business and Marketing – to teach all levels of the undergraduate curriculum. All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and best practices in international education. Tenure-track candidates are expected to provide leadership in the growth and transformation of a world-class business school. It is preferred that the required Doctorate degree for tenure-track positions is earned from an AACSB or EQUIS accredited program. Juris Doctor or equivalent is preferred for Business Law candidates. Graphic Design – to teach a full range of undergraduate courses (interactive, print, screen) in graphic design and/or advertising design as well as design foundations. Interactive experience, design technology and/or advertising experience is preferred. Tenure-track candidates are expected to provide leadership in the growth and development of the program. Interior Design - to teach a full range of undergraduate courses in interior design as well as design foundations. Skill with REVIT or comparable technology is required. Industrial/Product Design – to teach a full range of undergraduate courses in product design as well as design foundations. Skill with product design technology is required. Computer Science – to teach a full range of undergraduate Computer Science courses (CSO/1/2 in Java). Tenure-track candidates should demonstrate scholarly capability and an active research agenda in core areas of computer science, information systems and information technology. Mathematics – to teach a variety of mathematics courses including Data Science, Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing with application to mechanical, engineering, biomedical fields and Machine Learning with experience in coding mathematical/scientific computing languages (e.g. Python, R, MATLAB). Responsibilities include teaching courses at the undergraduate level, conducting research resulting in publications in peer-reviewed journals, guiding faculty-student collaborative research and advising undergraduate students. Preference will be given to tenure-track candidates with evidence of scholarship and teaching capability in the areas of data analytics and statistics. Biological Sciences: Immunology (Assistant Professor and Lecturer) – immunologist to teach and conduct research to further strengthen the Biology degree program. The program has a cell and molecular focus. In addition to instruction in immunology courses, the successful candidate will be required to teach a variety of lab and non-lab instruction classes such as Immunology, General Biology, Cell Physiology and Biochemistry. All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and best practices in international education. The successful candidate is expected to develop an extra-mural funded research program that incorporates undergraduate students as a key component of the research team. Biological Sciences: Microbiology (Assistant Professor) – broadly trained microbiologist to teach and conduct research to further strengthen the Biology degree program. In addition to instruction in microbiology courses, the successful candidate will be required to teach a variety of lab and non-lab instruction classes such as General Biology, Microbiology (lower and upper level), Virology and Molecular Biology. General Education and Support Courses for Wenzhou-Kean Majors
French – to teach French language courses at the introductory, intermediate and advanced levels. The successful candidate will have experience in non-native language acquisition and demonstrated teaching excellence. The ability to support other Liberal Arts programs is a plus. Spanish – a generalist in Spanish language, capable of teaching basic and intermediate courses in Spanish. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment and evidence of excellence in Spanish language teaching and Latino cultural studies. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English is required. Ability to implement communicative methods and employ ACTFL standards in assessment and curriculum design and to employ innovative technologies, global and digital competencies and 21st century skills are also desirable. Political Science – to teach Intro. to Politics; Comparative Politics; International Relations; and American Government as part of General Education requirements, with the ability to also teach upper division electives in Political Science. General Studies: Transition to Kean at WKU – this first-year seminar course is required for all incoming freshman. Instructors will engage with new students through professional interaction, cultivating personal development, life-long learning and foundation skills essential skills for college work.
