American Rescue Plan (ARP)
Kean University received $20,002,020 on May 15, 2021 through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2. The emergency financial aid grant is provided in support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kean University is currently working on the procedures to distribute the funds.
Kean University acknowledges that it has signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the ARP (a)(1) program to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
Kean University awards and disburses the funds in three separate processes. All funds must be distributed by May 14, 2022.
1. Batch Process for Summer 2021:
Kean select students to be awarded ARP grants for Summer 2021. The following are the selection criteria:
- Students Enrolled for Summer I and/or Summer II in 2021
- Completed 2020-2021 FAFSA
- Family annual gross income (AGI) is $45,000 or less
- Each student is awarded $500
2. Batch Process for Fall 2021:
Kean selects students to be awarded ARP grants for Fall 2021. The following are the selection criteria:
- Students Enrolled in Fall 2021
- Completed 2021-2022 FAFSA
- Family adjusted gross income (AGI) is $85,000 or less
- Each student is awarded $1000 which is a one-time award for Fall 2021
3. Application process for 2021-2022:
Students who weren’t selected under the Batch Process for Fall 2021 can apply for ARP grant by filling out an application. If you were already received the ARP award notification, you do NOT need to apply, because each student will only receive one ARP award for Fall 2021. Once the application is approved, the applicant will receive a one-time award of $1000 for Fall 2021.

The application can be accessed through KeanWISE, under the Financial Aid Self Service link. The application priority deadline is 9/17/2021; applications will continue to be accepted until fall 2021 funds are fully disbursed to students.
