Meet the Director
Chantonette Lyles is the Acting Director for the Office of Accessibility Services. She earned a B.S. in Psychology from Delaware State University and a M.A. from Montclair State University in Counseling with a concentration in Higher Education.
Prior to her arrival at Kean University, Chantonette was the Associate Director for the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). In her role, she was the administrator for the office in which she provided direction, supervision and approved academic and campus accommodations for undergraduate and graduate students that presented with accessibility challenges. She also provided accommodations for Rutgers University – Newark students that were taking classes at NJIT. In addition, Chantonette was a member of the NJIT CARE team which met weekly to provide assistance with referrals for students to on and off campus resources. Chantonette has been working in higher education since 2004 and has served in various roles including academic advising, accessibility, counseling, the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) and the Student Support Services Program (TRIO).
Chantonette is passionate about student success, social justice, accessibility and inclusion. Chantonette is a huge sports fan and enjoys traveling.
Meet the Team
Kiana C. Lawhorn is the Coordinator of Accessibility Services and Training Programs. She earned her Master of Arts in Administration & Supervision, School Principal at Montclair State University, and her Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management at Kean University. She is a certified School Principal and Special Education Teacher with experience working with students with disabilities in the Private and Public sectors. Over the last 22 years, Kiana has used her love for students and passion for learning to advocate for the needs of students with disabilities in the K-12 school setting in the capacity of Teacher, Special Education Coordinator, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction and Assistant Principal.
Previously, Kiana has worked in the School of General Studies at Kean University as an Adjunct Professor for the Transition to Kean program. Her experiences with Kean University and secondary education have culminated in the desire to support and advocate for students in higher education. As a proud alumna of Kean University, she is especially invested in seeing all Kean Cougars Climb Higher.
When not crafting, creating, or enjoying water-based activities, you can find Kiana actively engaged in the philanthropic and community conscious endeavors of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
Songwon Oh-Lorenzo is the Accessibility Services Coordinator and the Assistive Technology Lead for the Office of Accessibility Services. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Concentration in Social Work from Saint Elizabeth University and a Master of Social Work from Rutgers University with a Certificate in Promoting the Well-Being in Children & Adolescents.
Before joining Kean University, Songwon was a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at the NJ Commission for the Blind & Visually Impaired. She assisted in coordinating and managing peer-led support groups for persons of vision impairment and deaf/hard of hearing. Prior to her departure, she created several support groups specifically for young adults who were interested in assistive technology, work experience, and guide dog handlers.
Songwon is a legally blind professional who has developed an interest and passion in advocating, educating, and working with individuals with disabilities. She loves to listen to KPOP, travel to new places, and spend quality time with her family and friends.
William Ball is an Academic Specialist in the Office of Accessibility Services focused on improving the delivery of student services offered through the recently implemented Accommodate system. Bill also helps with test proctoring, office coverage, and metrics.
Bill is retired from a career in the telecommunications industry where he did software engineering and technology planning. He has a B.A. in Economics from Boston College and an M.S. in Applied Psychology with a concentration in Human Factors from Stevens Institute of Technology.
Jaylen Wright is an Academic Specialist and the Testing Coordinator for the Office of Accessibility Services. She is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of exams and quizzes. Jaylen also provides exam/quiz proctoring, office coverage, responds to inquiries from students, faculty and staff and assists with programming.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from North Carolina A & T State University. During her undergraduate years, she was a member of several student organizations and has a background in student programming and implementation. Jaylen has recently been accepted into the Counseling-School Counseling (M.A.) and LPC Qualification program here at Kean University. She hopes to work with children and/or teens in a school setting as she grows into her career.
Aside from assisting students, Jaylen truly enjoys listening to music, spending quality time with her family and friends, and dancing.
