Housing FAQ
Please see below for answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about living on campus.
Room Assignments
Can I request a roommate and/or suitemates?
Yes! Through your housing portal and on your housing application you can request a specific roommate and suitemates. You must mutually request each other and accept the invitation through your housing portal.
Can I request a single-occupancy room?
Singles are available for upperclassmen students, but are not available for freshmen students.
Most of our suites consist of two double-occupancy bedrooms (four students per suite with two assigned to each bedroom). Upperclassmen have the ability to select a single-occupancy room during Room Selection. During Room Change Days, students also have the option to switch into a single-occupancy room if available.
Students with medical accommodations granted by Accessibility Services are given priority access to single-occupancy bedrooms. If you are currently being treated by a physician and think you may qualify, please work with the Office of Accessibility Services to determine if you are eligible.
How will I be notified of my housing assignment and suitemates?
Students who have been assigned housing will receive an automatic email notification once they have been assigned to a building and suite. You can view your roommate and suitemates through your housing portal.
Why was I not assigned to my preferred residence hall or suite?
This year, current and incoming students will have the option to participate in Housing Selection, the process by which students are able to search for and select a specific room or suite for the upcoming academic year. Housing Selection allows students to determine for themselves where they would like to live based on their preferences and vacancies in the residence halls. To ensure the process is equitable to all students, Housing Selection operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Residence Life encourages students to participate in Selection as early as possible through incentives such as Priority and VIP Housing Selection, applying early for housing, and submitting immunization records. We understand certain residence halls, suite types and communities have higher demand, so students should give themselves the best opportunity to reserve a space in their desired suite by reviewing our resources, attending information sessions, and participating early. However, it is also important to recognize that there are limitations that may impact your housing options, and students are not guaranteed to find a space in their first or even second preference.
Students who do not participate in Housing Selection will be administratively assigned by the Residence Life team in August based on remaining vacancies. The Office of Residence Life does its best to accommodate all building preferences and roommate requests. By completing and submitting your housing application and application fee, you certify your understanding that your preferences may not be met and understand that you may be placed in a different hall pending availability.
