The Department of History is currently involved in the excavation of the Allen's Tavern on the campus grounds. The tavern, which dates back to the 1760s, was a center of resistance to the British Empire and a meeting place for revolutionaries including Alexander Hamilton and William Livingston. Students have been and will continue to be involved in excavation, artifact retrieval and historical analysis of the site.
