Psychology Organization
Why Join Psychology Organization
The purpose of the Psychology Organization is to help students understand the field of Psychology. It is designed to help Psychology majors, and anyone else interested, to learn more about the field and prepare them for classes, tests, and GRE's.
Additional information and assistance to become a part of the Graduate Program is also offered. In addition, this club's purpose is to have fun and meet new people. One of the goals of this club is to make new friends that have similar interests as you, along with similar majors.
How To Join Psychology Organization
The Psychology Organization is a very active student run organization. Students interested in pursuing contact with the diverse field of psychology outside of the classroom are invited to join.
The Psychology Organization meets on the first Tuesday of the month (during Fall and Spring terms)
The Psychology Organization sponsors a wide range of activities including:
-social gatherings
-field trips
-panel discussions
-presentations on career goals
-graduate school information
-films
-charitable activities
Meetings are open to all students.

Psi Chi, The International Honor Society in Psychology
Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, was founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. The Kean University chapter of Psi Chi was established in 1974. Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate students who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS).

What are the minimum criteria for a student to become a member?
Undergraduate:
*Psychology major or minor
*Academic standing of at least a second semester sophomore
*Overall GPA of at least 3.0
*GPA in Psychology courses of at least 3.5
*Completed at least 12 credits in Psychology at Kean University
Graduate:
*Enrolled in a graduate program in the School of Psychology
*GPA of at least 3.0 in all graduate courses, including Psychology
*Completed a minimum of 9 credits at Kean University
What are the required dues for membership?
Society dues are set by the international organization and are paid once when accepted into the organization. Chapter dues are set by the Kean Chapter and are paid once when accepted into the organization.
What is the required GPA for membership?
For undergraduate students the minimum overall GPA is 3.0 and the minimum GPA in psychology courses is 3.5.
For graduate students the minimum overall GPA is 3.0.
Is there a required service project to become a member?
There is no required service project.
How and when are students recruited for membership?
Students are notified during the fall semester via email, postings, and class announcements about the honor society and deadline for submitting applications. Posters advertising Psi Chi are also displayed all year within the School of Psychology. The deadline for applications for the once-a-year induction of new members is typically during the last week of January.
How and when are students inducted?
Then induction ceremony is held during the School of Psychology Honors and Awards ceremony. The ceremony is held during April or May of each year.
Is the honor society affiliated with any national organization?
Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS).
