The inspiration for Kean student Jason Van Woeart’s first children’s book came in the form of a small, stray calico cat named Marina Cat. The English education major wrote "The Adventures of Marina Cat: who ate my food?" after meeting and feeding the feline at a Carteret marina.

Kean Honors Students Who Are First in Their Families to Attend College

A weeklong series of events at Kean University marking First-Generation College Celebration Day culminated in a virtual address by President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D., in which he encouraged first-generation students to “be extraordinary.”

Brad Butler II experienced his parents’ substance abuse, his own academic struggles and finances so strained he sometimes slept in his car when he couldn’t afford the gas to drive home. But the Kean alumnus used those challenges as motivation and is now an award-winning motivational speaker, student advocate and success coach.
