Richard Lucas, AIA
Biography and Research Interests
After receiving his Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees in Architecture, and before starting his own practice in New York City, Richard was a Designer, Project Manager and Associate at several firms where he worked on a variety of commercial, mixed use, cultural, institutional, hospitality and high-end residential projects, located throughout the US, Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Many of the projects, competitions and theoretical investigations that he’s undertaken, whether as a Graduate student, in collaboration with other Architects, or as a sole practitioner, have received awards and recognition in a variety of monographs, publications and television.
Throughout his career and education, from Graduate School, working in large or small offices, serving on design juries in the New York City area, and through his own projects and research, Richard’s interest in integrating history, theory, building systems and construction, has remained a central focus. Crafting experience through the synthesis of multiple influences and design-drivers while always testing and exploring various ways of seeing, understanding and making space, has formed the core of his approach to design and architectural education, as well as in working with students and colleagues.
