Christa M. Akers, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Dr. Akers is a certified speech-language pathologist and has experience working with adults with neurogenic communication disorders in a variety of settings. Her research interests include conversation-based treatments for persons with aphasia and discourse outcome measures. She is currently collaborating with an international group of researchers exploring how principles of systemic functional linguistics can be used to develop clinically feasible conversation-focused assessments and interventions for persons with neurogenic communication disorders.
