Mission
The mission of The Dorothy and George Hennings College of Science, Mathematics and Technology, consistent with the overall mission of the University, is to achieve academic excellence by providing outstanding instruction in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Information Technology, Mathematical Sciences, and Sustainability. The educational mission of the College is threefold: 1) to offer a current, comprehensive, and diverse curriculum -- in both undergraduate and graduate education -- that integrates the fundamental principles of specific fields, advanced technologies, and interdisciplinary learning to facilitate the students’ acquisition of pertinent understanding, skills, and disposition needed to succeed in the future; 2) to provide a student-centered and intellectually stimulating environment that promotes knowledge discovery and fosters life-long learning; and 3) to develop a new generation of professionals and leaders who are dedicated to achieving the highest standards and principles in their respective fields of study. The research mission of the College is twofold: 1) to recruit and retain the best and brightest faculty who actively engage in scientific inquiry to advance the knowledge base in their respective disciplines; and 2) to encourage and support the scholarly pursuits and professional activities of both the faculty and students.
The College of Science, Mathematics and Technology Vision
The vision of the College of Science, Mathematics and Technology is fourfold: 1) to have all program assessments implemented and apply a data-driven decision making process for resource allocation and curriculum updates; 2) to be the college of choice for students who seek a world-class education in sciences, technology, and health care professions; 3) to be recognized for excellence in both undergraduate and graduate research; and 4) to exert positive impacts on the world through professional contributions at the local, national, and global levels from alumni, faculty, and students.
The College of Science, Mathematics and Technology Outcomes
The College of Science, Mathematics and Technology, through its schools, departments, and programs, will ensure that all degree programs:
1. Have an attainable and effective delivery mechanism for all targeted learning outcomes.
2. Assess each programs’ lower and upper level core courses in a two year cycle.
3. Apply a data-driven approach in making improvements, identifying needs, and allocating instructional resources appropriately.
4. Attain accreditation from their respective external accreditation agencies if existed.
5. Conduct surveys with alumni regularly to assess the impact of their studies at the College on their professional opportunities.
6. Evaluate the productivity of all faculty in scholarly activities and committee service, as well as effectiveness in instruction, reflection on pedagogical delivery, and provision of academic support to students.
7. Recruit and retain faculty and students with the highest academic standards.
