Office of Teacher Certification and Alternate Route Programs
About
The Office of Teacher Certification and Alternate Route Programs processes the licensure for educators seeking New Jersey certification for initial Teacher Programs (B.A., B.S. and M.A. tracks), as well as endorsements for English as a Second Language (TESOL), Early Childhood P-3 Education, Bilingual Education and Teacher of Students with Disabilities. In addition, this office endorses Educational Leadership and Education Services’ Programs.
Certification applications from future or prospective educators should submit these applications to the Office of Teacher Certification in order to be nominated and receive a license from the New Jersey Department of Education. Click on Teacher Certification for more information.
Alternate Route candidates seeking certification are required to enroll in Kean University’s approved non-degree track for Early Childhood P-3 Education or English as a Second Language K-12 (TESOL).
After the completion of the required coursework, the school districts will nominate educators for a standard license using the NJEDCERT portal. Participants are also able to apply for the M.A. degree tracks in Early Childhood Education and English as a Second Language for additional 12 credits in Early Childhood and 9 credits for English as a Second Language.
Alternate Route Non-Degree programs in Early Childhood P-3 Education and English as a Second Language K-12 (TESOL) should adhere to the admission procedures and requirements for the program. Click on Alternate Route Programs for more information.
For holidays, please check the Kean Calendar for the list of official State of New Jersey holidays and the status of the University on the dates observed. The office is closed on those holidays.
