Associate Chairperson Information
Under the direction of the Department Chairperson, Associate Chairpersons are collegial leaders of their departments and perform administrative responsibilities designed to enhance academic quality and service to students. It is the general responsibility of the Associate Chairperson to work with the Department Chairperson to guide the department toward its goals. Associate Chairpersons must also perform the appropriate faculty responsibilities as prescribed by the University consistent with the terms and conditions of the Master Agreement. - Associate Chairpersons shall be full-time, tenured faculty (any rank) with adequate expertise to execute administrative responsibilities on behalf of the Department Chairperson.
- Associate Chairperson appointments will become effective September 1, 2023.
- Associate Chairpersons shall be appointed by the Department Chairperson and approved by the Dean. Such appointments shall be made by September 15, 2023.
- The usual term of service shall be one (1) academic year, with reappointment optional at the discretion of the Department Chairperson and approval of the Dean.
- Based on prior practice, Associate Chairpersons will receive three (3) credit hours of released time in the Fall and Spring semesters for Academic Year 2023-2024.
- Associate Chairpersons hold their faculty titles. Compensation for work during summer months will be provided through release time (12-month contracts) or overload (10-month contracts) depending on the managerial prerogative of the University and the needs of the department.
