Symposium on Policing and Public Safety

Law Enforcement, Education and Policymakers Unite with Community Members to Kick Off a Public Safety Symposium at Kean University
(Advancing Equitable Solutions for Policing and Community Safety throughout the Garden State)

The New Jersey Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE NJ), The Positive Community Corporation, the New Jersey Urban Mayors Association and the John S. Watson Institute for Urban Policy and Research at Kean University invite the public to attend the kickoff event for an essential symposium series on policing and public safety in urban and urban-rural communities.

This inaugural symposium will take place on Saturday, March 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the North Avenue Academic Building, Kean University, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ. This solution-oriented event will bring together law enforcement leaders, policymakers, community advocates and scholars to explore and advance innovative strategies that address critical issues in policing and public safety.

Participants attending these interactive sessions will identify actionable solutions to foster sustainable, community-centered and equity-driven approaches to public safety.

• Strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve
• Policy and oversight reforms for public safety agencies
• Social determinants of health and community well-being
• The role of technology and social media in shaping public perceptions of policing and safety
• Urban violence prevention strategies and equity-centered solutions

The John S. Watson Institute for Urban Policy and Research, which has managed the NJ Urban Mayors Association (NJUMA) for over 30 years, remains committed to driving policy change and advocating for community-driven solutions to urban challenges.
