We are delighted to announce our keynote speaker: Loung Ung. Loung is a survivor of the Cambodian genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s. Under the totalitarian regime of Pol Pot, Loung's life changed in an instant. Her family, along with thousands of other Cambodians, was forced out of Phnom Penh into the rural areas of the country. After this arduous journey, Loung was forced to grow up overnight. The film "First They Killed my Father" (2017) was directed by Angelina Jolie and co-written by Jolie and Loung Ung. We highly recommend watching the film (available on Netflix) and reading the book by the same title prior to the conference. Understanding her story will make the keynote address all the more meaningful as we hear of her resilience and ongoing advocacy.
