The Kean Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory (KDL) is a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certified, diagnostic testing laboratory, accredited by the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA).
About Us
The KDL was established during the COVID pandemic, capitalizing on cutting-edge equipment, technology and research to provide precise and dependable diagnostics services. We have provided accurate and timely COVID-19 testing since the early days of the pandemic, in collaboration with Union County and under license from the New Jersey Dept of Health, offering PCR based testing for COVID-19, FluA & FluB, with results available in as little as 24 hours.
The KDL is located on the Union campus and staffed by a dedicated team of experts, allowing us to leverage the latest technology and research to deliver accurate and reliable and personalized testing services to meet the specific needs of our clients.
In collaboration with the Kean University Wellness Center, we offer diagnostic services with timely and accurate testing for disease diagnosis and treatment.
Offerings in place or under development include:
- Highly sensitive and specific COVID-19 and FLU testing
- Comprehensive Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) panel
- Screening for Sickle Cell Anemia
- State-of-the-art Next-Generation sequencing technology
- Comprehensive Drug of Abuse (DOA) testing through urine toxicology
- A dedicated team of experts providing personalized services to meet specific needs
The KDL lab is at the forefront of next generation sequencing technology, allowing us to provide high-quality genomic sequencing and analysis services. We offer a wide range of sequencing services, including whole genome sequencing, transcriptome analysis, and targeted sequencing. We have systems and protocols to support clinical research and Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) and In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) regulatory filings, including HIPAA compliance, sample handing and data storage. We work closely with healthcare providers and industry partners to develop new diagnostic tools and therapies to improve patient care.
Our Mission
The KDL’s mission is to support campus and urban community health by providing accessible, timely, and affordable clinical diagnostic services as well as training for Kean students interested in a career in diagnostics, and conducting innovative research in clinical and genomic diagnostic testing. We understand the importance of timely and accurate testing in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, and we are committed to providing the highest quality testing services to healthcare providers and individuals alike. We are also committed to expanding our diagnostic testing panels, innovating in genomic testing and pharmacogenomics, and providing R&D support for companies developing and validating new diagnostic tests.
