Core Research Equipment Facility
Kean’s Core Research Equipment Facility (CREF) is a shared-service core research facility that provides specialized instrumentation and analytical services through its Research Institutes and Centers to support researchers in the conduct of their basic and translational research.
About Us
CREF is available to Kean University faculty, NJ State University Faculty, and other outside users.
Fees for service are calculated to cover maintenance, consumables, equipment time, and salary costs, and quotes are available from individual programs or resources upon request.
CREF is a participating core facility in the NJ Commission on Science, Technology and Innovation Catalyst R&D Voucher Program. The program provides vouchers of up to $40,000 to eligible New Jersey companies to help offset the cost of leveraging R&D resources, facilities, and equipment at the state’s academic universities and colleges, federal and non-profit laboratories to advance their technology development.
Our Equipment Facilities
The Core Facility is centrally managed with equipment located in research clusters throughout the University, and include a Core Analytical Chemistry Facility, Core Biology Facility, and a Core Computational Science Facility. These facilities are well-equipped, and managed and scheduled with the Agilent web-based, enterprise-wide iLab core facilities Management Software.

Our Mission
Our mission is to support teaching and multidisciplinary collaborative research at Kean University, with Institutions of Higher Education, and the broader New Jersey regional research ecosystem.
We aim to foster academic-industrial research partnerships and collaborative research programs and work to support the regional Life-Science and Tech industries, from start-ups to established companies, in partnership with the New Jersey’s Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology.
We are also committed to training the next-generation of scientific leaders through collaborative workforce development programs with regional community colleges and our K-12 community.
