Kean University Computer Science Students Attend HackCon V

Kean students Carlos Flores Jr. of Elizabeth, Daniel Henriques of Old Bridge, Arian Gonzalez of Carteret, Rishbh Rana of Bridgewater, Ruben Hernandez of Passaic and Katherine Cabrera of Elizabeth recently attended HackCon V in East Stroudsburg, PA, along with Kean University computer science Professor Austin Huang, Ph.D.

Held annually in North America and Europe, HackCon offers two full days of workshops, talks and discussions. The participating students drew inspiration for this year’s HackKean event, a marathon day of hacking that produces novel solutions across a diverse array of hardware and software platforms.

“We can't begin to thank Kean for giving us such a wonderful opportunity to network with other hackathon organizers,” said HackKean organizer Carlos Flores Jr. “HackCon provided a great learning experience and the tools to organize an amazing HackKean. As student leaders, we want to help exemplify Kean's excellence in computer science education.”

HackCon is sponsored by Major League Hacking (MLH), the official student hackathon league. MLH organizes over 200 weekend-long invention competitions each year, inspiring innovation, cultivating communities and teaching computer science skills to more than 65,000 students around the world.

HackCon is designed to teach student organizers best practices for running a hackathon and provides valuable leadership opportunities, as veteran organizers share insights and help guide the next generation of hackers and engineers. Kean students benefited from the collaborative learning environment at HackCon and worked collectively with their peers at other institutions to discuss contemporary issues facing the CS community. 

HackKean 2018 is planned for early April. High school and college students from throughout New Jersey are invited to participate.
