Kean Receives State DOE Grant to Create Computer Science Learning Hub
May 04, 2021
Kean University was named as one of three New Jersey universities to create computer science learning hubs under Gov. Phil Murphy’s new Expanding Access to Computer Science program.
The University will receive a grant of $265,665 to create a hub that will provide high-quality professional learning for educators, and resources for school districts, to increase computer science opportunities for students. Funding will also allow Kean to build partnerships with stakeholders to promote the growth of computer science education.
“We are thrilled and honored to be selected for this program supporting K-12 educators, and helping to further develop computer science education in our schools,” said Kean President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D. “Educating and supporting teachers is in our DNA at Kean, and we are proud to be part of a program that will advance teacher professional development in the important field of computer science.”
The DOE estimates that the learning hubs will lead to approximately 3,000 students receiving equitable high-quality computer science education during the grant period, which runs until August 31, 2022.
Rutgers University, New Brunswick, and Fairleigh Dickinson University were the other two institutions selected for the hubs.
