Artist Jane McAdam Freud to Lecture at Kean University

Artist and educator Jane McAdam Freud will give a lecture entitled Object Authority on March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Kean University’s Little Theatre. Object Authority draws on Freud’s recent work, deconstructing and engaging the concept of authority.  The lecture is co-sponsored by Kean University’s Department of Fine Arts, Art History Program, Jewish Studies Program and the Master of Arts in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Admission is free and open to the public and a reception with the artist will be held immediately after the program.

“Jane McAdam Freud is an accomplished artist in her own right, and the daughter of Lucian Freud, one of the leading British painters of our time. She is also a direct descendant of the founder of Freudian psychoanalysis,” said Lewis Kachur, professor and fine arts program coordinator, Kean University. “Continuing in the tradition of the Arts Dialog series, the Fine Art and Art History programs bring leading contemporary artists to campus to share their ideas and creativity,” painters of our time. She is also a direct descendant of the founder of Freudian psychoanalysis.”

Jane McAdam Freud is an internationally acclaimed sculptor and multi-disciplinary artist with a career spanning over thirty years. Freud’s work is included in the permanent collections of museums and galleries around the world, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London’s National Gallery and The Brooklyn Museum. Freud is a long-term associate lecturer at Central St. Martins and is currently in her second year as artist in residence at the Harrow School. 

Freud’s work frequently draws inspiration from her own family background, referencing both the remarkable collection of ancient sculpture collected by her great grandfather and the cultural legacy of Freudian psychoanalysis which has had a profound and lasting effect on the contemporary psyche.
