Who is eligible for a Graduate Assistantship?
To be eligible for a graduate and doctoral assistantship, a student must:

Hold a baccalaureate degree

Be enrolled for no more than 12 credits per semester, but no less than 9 credits per semester of graduate study in their program at the university

Be of academic standing consistent with the expectations for the role of graduate or doctoral assistant

Have a 3.5 graduate GPA at Kean after completing at least 9 credits
How do I apply for a Graduate Assistantship if I am a prospective student at Kean University?
When applying for a graduate degree program, you will be prompted with a question asking if you wish to be considered for a Graduate Assistantship. By selecting 'yes,' you will have the opportunity to complete an application to be considered for one of the following positions: Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA), Graduate Research Assistant (GRA), or Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA).

Is there a deadline for applications?
Applicants for a graduate assistantship should apply by March 1 for priority consideration for an assistantship.
How will I know if I am accepted into the Graduate Assistantship Program?
A review committee will review all applicants. As this is a rolling process, a student may be contacted before any semester if they wish to interview the student for an open position. If the committee determines that you are a strong fit for their position, they will reach out to you directly to schedule an interview.
Does my Graduate Assistantship apply for the summer?
Graduate assistantships begin in the Fall semester of the new academic year and continue through the end of the Spring semester. There is the possibility to work as a student worker during the summer months, however, this is not guaranteed and is at the discretion of the supervisor and budgetary constraints. Summer GA positions do not cover summer tuition and fees.
Doctoral assistantships cover tuition and fees for Fall, Spring and Summer.
Do I need to reapply for a Graduate Assistantship every year?
A student who was previously denied a Graduate Assistantship can reapply to the program.
