Position Overview:
The Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) will work closely with a faculty member or research team on projects related to their field of study. The GRA will contribute to various aspects of research, including data collection, analysis, literature reviews, and dissemination of findings. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop research skills, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to scholarly work in a collaborative academic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Collection and Analysis:
- Assist in gathering data through experiments, surveys, fieldwork, or other appropriate methods for the research project.
- Use statistical or qualitative analysis software to analyze research data and interpret findings.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of data, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
- Literature Review and Research Support:
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to identify relevant theories, methodologies, and findings in the area of study.
- Summarize and synthesize scholarly articles to support the development of research proposals, reports, and publications.
- Stay updated on current developments in the field of study.
- Project Management:
- Assist in the planning and coordination of research activities to ensure timely completion of project goals.
- Monitor project timelines, track milestones, and report progress to the Principal Investigator or project team.
- Contribute to the development of research presentations, posters, and progress reports.
- Writing and Dissemination of Results:
- Participate in drafting research papers, reports, and presentations for academic journals, conferences, and other scholarly outlets.
- Assist in preparing grant proposals and funding applications.
- Present research findings at internal and external meetings, workshops, or academic conferences when applicable.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with faculty, other research assistants, and students to achieve research objectives.
- Actively participate in research team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and discussions.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to fellow researchers and contribute to a positive and productive research environment.
Qualifications:
- Education and Eligibility:
- Hold a baccalaureate degree, preferably in a field relevant to the research project.
- Be enrolled for no more than 12 credits per semester, but no less than 9 credits per semester of graduate study in their program at the university
- Have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or better, or GRE score in the 70th percentile or higher
- Have a 3.5 graduate GPA at Kean after completing at least 12 credits
- Experience: Previous experience in conducting research, data analysis, or academic writing is preferred but not required.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS) or qualitative analysis tools (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative research team.

Students will be able to apply during the semester preceding the anticipated assignment. Applicants shall be interviewed by the appropriate staff member (Department Chairperson, Administrator, Faculty member, etc.), and the selection based upon institutional need, the applicant’s previous educational background, experiential background, financial need, etc. Applicants will be notified as to the disposition of the application as quickly as possible.
