Campuses Closed on Sunday, January 19, and Monday, January 20, Due to Weather

Due to the winter weather forecast, all classes and activities at Kean’s main campus in Union, Kean Ocean and Kean Skylands are canceled on Sunday, January 19, and Monday, January 20. Normal operations are expected to resume on Tuesday, January 21. Only personnel who are essential during weather emergencies should report to work as required on Sunday and Monday. Employees with questions about their status should consult their supervisors. Keanu’s Kitchen will be open for on-campus residents from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. to midnight on Monday.

Biography:

Dr. Burkey received his B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University and his Ph.D. from The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Prior to joining Kean, Dr. Burkey was a Visiting Assistant Professor of African American Studies and Political Science at The College of New Jersey. 

Dr. Burkey’s teaching and research interests are in American politics, political theory, social movements, and African American Studies. He is currently working on a project that explores how American resistance movements challenge the norms of patriotism and reframe narratives of national identity. As a consultant to Temple Contemporary, the art gallery of Temple University, Dr. Burkey has contributed his expertise to “The Ongoing Revolution,” an art exhibit that documented the past half-century of American movements for equity and inclusion.

At Kean, Dr. Burkey teaches a wide range of Political Science courses centered on democracy and citizenship and enjoys offering students the tools to be thoughtful and active participants in civic life.
