Joy has happily made a career as an actor and singer across all genres since childhood. On Broadway, Joy appeared in the revival of Caroline, or Change as Grandma Gellman, Hal Prince’s Candide, Fiddler on the Roof (Fruma/Yente), Cyrano the Musical (Chaperone), A Christmas Carol (Mrs. Fezziwig), Baz Luhrmann’s La Bohème, many Encores! at City Center, and can be heard on numerous cast recordings. Favorite regional appearances include leading roles in Sunday in the Park with George, Cabaret, Souvenir, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, Gypsy, 1776, Oliver!, Beauty & the Beast, 33 Variations and Hamlet. Joy was seen on NBC’s Sound of Music Live! with Carrie Underwood, Sweeney Todd with Emma Thompson at the New York Philharmonic on PBS Live from Lincoln Center, and has sung with Symphony Orchestras across the country, at Avery Fisher, Carnegie, and the Royal Albert Halls. She has worked at opera companies from Alaska to Italy to Utah to NYC, and recently debuted at Lyric Opera of Chicago in Fiddler and Daughter of the Regiment. Joy is an Adjunct Professor of Voice at Kean University and Yale University, and also maintains a private studio. As a currently working professional in theatre and opera, Joy brings a developed sense of awareness of the rigors of a performer’s life. Her mission is to nurture ready-to-work, informed singer-actors who have a deep connection to text and convey that understanding through tension-free vocal production over the gamut of song styles.
