Midterm Feedback

• Midterm Feedback (MF) is supportive and personal

  • Elicits student feedback on your course

  • Confidential: no one knows about the feedback, unless you choose to tell them

  • Can help you understand what, when and how students are learning

  • Can help you understand what students deem as most important

  • Valuable for making adjustments midstream if necessary,

• Differ from end-of-course teaching evaluations 

  • MF is optional, End-of-course teaching evaluations (EoCTE) are mandatory

  • MF is administered by the CTL or on your own, EoCTE are administered at the institutional level

  • Outside of the formal faculty evaluation process, EoCTE must be included in your Interfolio

  • Both MF and EoCTE can be useful in examining your own pedagogical choices.

• MF support students' motivation

  • Students are likely to appreciate your interest in knowing more about their experiences in your classroom

  • MF signal to students that they play a critical role in the educational process

• MF support students' learning

  • MF encourage students to reflect on their learning strategies and experiences, as well as their effort

  • Hearing the students' perspective can lead you to either make requested adjustments or to know how to better communicate about unpopular required elements with the students
