2024 Juneteenth Jamboree

On June 19, 2024, Kean University College of Education's Center for Africana Studies hosted a Juneteenth Jamboree to celebrate "Freedom Day," which commemorates the emancipation of slaves in the U.S. The event featured a Freedom Walk on campus, promoting the significance of acknowledging our collective history and working toward equity and inclusion in our society. Festivities included free food truck treats, ice cream, DJ music, and face painting.

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, the Center for Africana Studies was honored to serve as Commencement Marshals during the Undergraduate Commencement. We were proud to show our support for our African Studies Minors students and for those students who proudly celebrated their African heritage.

On the distinguished occasion of the Graduate Commencement held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Center for Africana Studies had the esteemed privilege of serving as Commencement Marshals. It was a source of great pride for us to extend our wholehearted support to our African Studies Minors students, as well as to those students who take pride in celebrating their African heritage.

Kean University College of Education's Center for Africana Studies celebrated our students' achievements, inspiring them to strive for greatness. We marked our 37th Annual African Heritage Graduation Ceremony, where we applauded the academic accomplishments of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students who completed their studies in January, as well as those who filed for graduation in May and August. By celebrating with our students, their families, friends, and the Kean community, we honored their hard work, dedication, and the rich culture of our African.

The trip is scheduled for April 10, 2024, and I believe it presents a unique opportunity for us to come together, form relationships, and navigate policy issues that are vital to the communities we’ve all chosen to serve.

Kean University College of Education's Center for Africana Studies organized a panel discussion titled "The Afro-Latino Experience of Kean Students." This event aimed to amplify the diverse voices within the community. Launch of the Center for Africana Studies

On February 21, 2024, the Center for Africana Studies, a place that honors history, hosted The Launch Of The Center For Africana Studies. This significant event included a private reception for esteemed guests, a celebration of academic excellence, and cultural diversity. The Black Executive Leadership Council within Bank of America Merrill Lynch showed their support for the rich heritage and contributions of the Africana Diaspora.

Kean University’s new Center for Africana Studies is hosting a traveling museum on campus this week. Yesterday, we hosted the Black church exhibit at Hynes Hall. Monday February 19th, we will be at Stem Atrium from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm, featuring our Redlining exhibit. There will be live performances and refreshments.
