Health information management is an integral part of today’s health care environment.

A degree in health information management helps you deliver quality patient care, manage and secure medical records, collaborate with teams of health care providers, and support the efficient operation of hospitals, businesses and insurance companies.

Our program prepares you for the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) exam. RHIAs collect many kinds of data from a variety of sources, monitor the integrity of the information, ensure appropriate access to health records, and manage the analysis and use of data.

Kean graduates are organizing and securing critical patient information in health care facilities, insurance companies and doctors' offices around the globe.

Kean students study and learn in the Miron Student Center — Health information management majors study at the Miron Student Center on the main campus.

What You Learn

Take focused coursework on business management, medical terminology, hospital organization and health information systems
Implement computerized patient record systems and track patient outcomes for quality assessment
Monitor the integrity of information and manage data access, analysis and use
Understand accounting, strategic planning and human resources administration
Develop technical expertise, problem-solving skills and knowledge of clinical codes for insurance reimbursement

In the first stage, you complete general education courses and all pre-professional courses at Kean. The professional courses in health information management are then completed at Rutgers - School of Health Related Professions, which is part of Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences in Newark.
