Assistantship, Training Fellowships, and Related Funding Opportunities

Kean University's Psy.D. program is committed to supporting its doctoral students on their academic journey by offering a variety of funding opportunities. These options include Doctoral Assistantships, training fellowships that provide a tuition waiver and stipend to support student training in urban public schools, Graduate Teaching Assistantships, and Kean Scholarships. We understand that financing your education is essential, and our comprehensive funding options aim to ease the financial burden while you focus on your doctoral studies.

Kean BeWell Fellows Program

Fellows receive 2-years (or more) of training support, gaining clinical experiences within school settings, along with a full tuition waiver and stipend. This opportunity is made possible through the Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant Program, generously awarded to our program by the United States Department of Education.

Doctoral Assistantship (DA)

  • Typically awarded to 3 entering students each year
  • Covers tuition and provides a stipend over all four years of residency during the program
  • Includes academic year and summer funding
  • Requires work and experience within Kean Psychological Services, the community training clinic, as well as other administrative, research, and teaching opportunities

Mental Health Service Fellowships

  • Typically awarded to 6 entering students each year
  • Provides a tuition waiver and a stipend to support the first two years of training during the doctoral program
  • Embeds clinical work and training experiences within the Belleville Public Schools
  • Additional training and funding opportunities may  be available for Fellows in their 3rd or 4th year of training through our partnerships with the Hillside Public Schools and the Union Township Public Schools, as well as other forms of funding (e.g., GTA). 
  • MHSF includes academic year training and funding

 

Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA)

  •  Open to students entering their second year in the program and beyond
  • Involves leading recitation sections of undergraduate psychology courses and related responsibilities
  • Compensated with a percentage of tuition remission and an associated stipend 
  • Students can apply for GTA positions in the spring semester at the end of Year 1 and 2  in the program

Kean Scholarships

  • Available to all students, including incoming students
  • Scholarships can provide financial support of up to approximately $6,000
  • Application deadlines typically fall in March
