University Planning Council
The University Planning Council (UPC) is a vital component of Kean University's commitment to shared governance. It plays a crucial role in writing, implementing, and assessing the strategic plan by establishing measurable goals, objectives, and indicators of institutional effectiveness. The UPC ensures that all major plans, decisions, and initiatives align with the University's mission and current strategic plan.
Strategic Planning Process 2024-2025
Kean University has embarked on an exciting new strategic planning process for 2025-2030. This process, which began in September 2024, emphasizes collaboration and diverse perspectives across the university community. The timeline includes:
- September 28, 2024: Full day training - Integrated Planning Session 'Kick-Off' with the University Planning Council
- October 24, 2024: Second session focusing on analyzing results from previous rating exercises and identifying key trends (3:15-4:15 pm virtual meeting).
- November 20-21, 2024: Two full-day sessions on advanced strategic analysis and integrated planning practices. January 16-17, 2025: Two full-day training sessions on practical application of strategic planning concepts
- January-February 2025: Virtual Campus updates and surveys on strategic priorities
- March-May 2025: Writing and finalizing the strategic plan
- June-August 2025: University Relations refining the plan
- September 2025: Board review and approval, followed by campus reveal
Throughout this process, the UPC will facilitate open communication and encourage input from all university stakeholders, reinforcing our commitment to shared governance.
Membership
The UPC's diverse membership reflects our commitment to shared governance, including representatives from:
- Presidential appointees
- University Senate appointees from each College
- Student representatives
- Bargaining agent representatives
- University division representatives
- Kean University Foundation
- Ex Officio members
Members serve three-year terms, with specific exceptions, ensuring continuity and fresh perspectives in our planning processes.
Meeting Schedule
The UPC general body meets every 8 weeks, unless charged with a task with subcommittees and special meetings scheduled as necessary. General meetings will be on the 6th floor of GLAB or virtually.
