The Garden Statement exhibition brings together six artists whose work highlights issues and concepts relevant to the State of New Jersey. From individual narratives to far reaching political statements, each artist makes personal work that comes from a distinct viewpoint and background. These artists represent the vast cultural and intellectual diversity that exists in New Jersey. Each artist’s direction is formed and supported by critical observations of their environment with socio-political grounding. Each idea is translated into a visually beautiful and captivating piece. These artists urge the viewer to be more observant and concerned with the issues that directly effect and reflect on us as New Jersey citizens.
The six artists, Pat Brentano, Rachael Faillace, Michelle Mechanic, Joseph Gerard Sabatino, and Rocco Scary, are all New Jersey residents with personal histories and conceptual interests characteristic of the state. The catalogue includes an essay by Rocio Aranda-Alvarado, curator at El Museo Del Barrio, and photography by artist, Marco Munoz Jaramillo.
