Human Rights Conference Attracts Capacity to Kean University’s Wilkins Theatre
UNION, NJ - The Human Rights Institute at Kean University hosted its third annual international conference on human rights, Combating Hatred, on Friday, January 29. Morris Dees, founder and chief trial counsel for the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Alabama, delivered the keynote address to a capacity crowd in Kean’s Wilkins Theatre.
More than 1,100 people, including students and teachers from more than 12 school districts in New Jersey, attended the event. Other speakers at the conference included Mark Weitzman, director of Government Affairs and the director of the Task Force against Hate and Terrorism for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and David L. D'Amico, a detective with the bias crimes unit at the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office.
