Gourmet Dining Debit/Credit Card Transactions

Dear Kean University Community:

The university was recently made aware by Gourmet Dining (the company that Kean contracts to provide food services) of a technical error that resulted in the delayed processing of three months worth of credit/debit card transactions during the spring semester.  The university apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused and is working diligently to address your concerns.  

If you used a credit card or ATM/debit card at any food services venue on campus between the dates of March 1, 2012 and May 31, 2012, the charges were not posted to your account at the time of your purchase.  All of the purchases made during this period were batched together and processed beginning May 25, 2012.  This is the reason you may see multiple transactions posted to your account around this date.

The food service locations that are involved include:

  • New Residence Hall Cafeteria
  • University Center Food Court
  • Cougar’s Den
  • University Center Marketplace/Convenience Store
  • Starbucks (Library & Center for Academic Success locations)
  • Cafe Yumba


The university has not received any information that these charges were made in error or constitute duplicate charges. The problem was a technical one and resulted in a delay of your purchases being posted to your account. Please check your bank statements carefully and if you feel that you were charged erroneously, please contact the Office of Student Financial Services at the number listed below. 

If you were charged an overdraft fee due to the delay in the posting of these purchases, the university will work with you and your bank/financial institution in an attempt to address these fees.

If you need assistance, the university has set up a call center and dedicated email account to receive inquiries into this matter. The call center telephone number is 908-737-3270 and the email address is ccassist@kean.edu. The call center will be staffed Friday, June 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Next week the call center will be open during normal business hours, Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
