The Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) manages Kean University’s intellectual property and works to partner Kean’s assets and faculty with industry and entrepreneurs through collaborations, licensing and the formation of company start-ups.
Our Mission
Our mission at the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) is to support Kean University’s goals of creating a world-class, innovative and inclusive society through equity and excellence in teaching, learning, global research, and impactful public engagement. Central to this mission is to advance discoveries by the Kean community into the commercial realm.
OTC works to promote innovations through strategic alliances and new venture creation, to facilitate the translation of research breakthroughs into tangible solutions, and to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive environment for entrepreneurship. We advance this mission in support of the Kean University community and for the benefit of society.

Startup launched
The Enabling Partnerships to Increase Innovation Capacity (EPIIC) Program
In October 2023, Kean became one of 47 emerging research institutions in the U.S. to receive financial support from the Enabling Partnerships to Increase Innovation Capacity (EPIIC) program of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). The NSF will invest $400,000 over three years towards Kean’s efforts expand the OTC and to support research aimed at developing new products and solutions to societal challenges. This work will be done in collaboration with Bowie State University in Maryland; Alvernia University in Pennsylvania; Marymount University in Virginia; Rowan College at Burlington County; and SUNY College of Technology at Canton, New York.
