Benefits Onboarding for Adjunct New Hires
Adjunct faculty members teaching a minimum of 3 credits are required to participate in the Alternate Benefit Program (ABP), a state-administered retirement plan, immediately upon commencement of employment at Kean University. Alternate Benefit Program information is available here.
In order to enroll in the Alternate Benefit Program (ABP), you are required to follow the instructions below.
Step 1. Select a Designated Service Provider and set up an account
Select one of the seven approved ABP designated service providers, and set up your account with the provider.

Step 2. Complete Required Forms and submit to HR asap to benefits@kean.edu.

Step 3. Review ABP Group Term Life Insurance Summary
Employer-paid life insurance payable to designated beneficiaries is available. Newly enrolled ABP members 60 years of age or older must undergo a review process immediately upon enrollment to determine eligibility for ABP Group Term Life Insurance (GTL).

Step 4. Designate a beneficiary for group life insurance (optional)
If you would like to designate your beneficiary for group life insurance purposes, you are encouraged to submit the following form to the Division of Pensions and Benefits in Trenton. The mailing address is on the back of the form.

Please note that you must complete these steps/forms as outlined within 7 days after accepting the offer of adjunct employment in Workday and/or receiving your Workday notification regarding Benefits Onboarding for New Hire Adjuncts.
Notice of Force Enrollment
Enrollment in the ABP retirement plan is mandatory. If you do not select an investment carrier or notify us of your retirement from another state-administered retirement plan in a timely manner, you will be automatically enrolled into this year’s default ABP service provider, MetLife/Brighthouse.
Health Benefits
Part-time employees of Kean University, including adjuncts, who are currently enrolled in a state administered retirement plan, are eligible to enroll in the Part-Time State Health Benefits Program for medical and Prescription drug coverage.
