Kean University Remembers 9/11

Kean University Remembers 9/11 with National Day of Service and Remembrance

On September 11, 2001, the United States suffered an unimaginable act of terror on its soil, resulting in nearly 3,000 lives lost at the World Trade Center, in the Pentagon and in Shanksville, PA.

While the memories of that tragic day are for many just as vivid and painful as they were a decade ago, the day also is remembered for the indomitable bravery, spirit and resolve exhibited by Americans everywhere – including many whose names we may never know and whose faces we may never see. We are reminded that, even in our greatest hour of despair, unity and compassion for our fellow neighbors conquers all.

In the enduring spirit of this solidarity, people throughout the country will once again come together in their communities and neighborhoods to honor the victims of 9/11 and to reaffirm the strength of our nation with acts of service and charity. Kean University will join the nation in commemorating 9/11 by participating in the National Day of Service and Remembrance. A series of service events will be held both on and off the Kean campus on Saturday, September 10 and Monday, September 12.

The University will distribute commemorative pins at the Center for Academic Success and the University Center. We encourage you to stop by one of the centers and wear your pin in honor of those who lost their lives.

Members of the Kean community may also make a donation to the Richard Cudina ’78 Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen in memory of Cudina, who was working for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 105th floor of the World Trade Center’s north tower when the first of the two hijacked airplanes crashed into his building. By pledging to volunteer, perform good deeds, or engage in other forms of charitable service, the Kean community will rekindle the remarkable spirit of unity, service and compassion shared by so many in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.
